Defender of the Universe

The Voltron DVD’s are to be released in September or “fall”. I’ve been doing some research and here are all the juicy bits and my understandings from the Official and DVD site.

Voltron: Defender of the Universe has been planned for 8 DVD releases, each one containing three discs, approximately 15 episodes, and as many extras as we can squeeze in. We’re preparing premium special edition packaging, an aggressive video restoration process, and remixed 5.1 audio. The goal is to make Voltron look better than it has ever looked before. We’ll keep posting updates here about our restoration work, so check back often!

UPCOMING RELEASES
In addition to Voltron: Defender of the Universe, we are planning to release Hundred Beast King GoLion and Armored Squadron Dairugger XV on DVD starting next year. These releases will be completely uncut and in their original Japanese with English Subtitles. Warning: While Voltron is suitable for all ages, GoLion and Dairugger contain violence and other scenes that may be too intense for younger viewers. Please use discretion. Release dates for GoLion and Dairugger are not yet available, but they will be posted here as soon as possible.

Concepts! Concepts! We’ve got concepts!
We’ve started our race to get cool packaging done for September! So with no rest in site for the Art Department, here we give you an early concept of what will eventually be our Volume 1, The Blue lion Collector’s Tin (gotta form the feet and legs first!) Each lion tin will house a digi-pack with 3 DVDs and a booklet. So keep your eye’s peeled for more updates, we hope to have more prototypes soon!(video is in the “trailers” section under “extras”)

Now, my Voltron memories are hazy. From what I understand GoLion is the “Lion Voltron” and Dairugger XV is the “Vehicle Voltron,” and then there was this Americanized CGI bastardization. I only remember the cartoon Lions.

GoLion and DXV were two seperate series, but the American renditions mixed them together and even created more episodes. So, all this will be interesting. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Voltron, and I’d like to see how they were different or even better than one another. Go Voltron Force!
