Sunday Shorts: Happy New Year

Google says today is the Lunar/Chinese New Year. It is also celebrated by Koreans, Vietnamese, Mongolians, and others. This will be the year of the Pig. I was born in the year of the Rooster, but I really dont care for that astrology mumbo jumbo. I remembered that Chicago has a Vietnamese/Korean town, similar to the Chinatown. I need to go there sometime.

Todays Eyes of Nye, Bill tackled overpopulation. I wish there was a greater initiative to make this content openly available on the web. The Eyes of Nye website has some clips, but even a podcast of the episode would be nice. Hmmm… should I?…never mind.

The Sarah Silverman Project is humorous. The majority of the episodes are probably too risqué for most audiences. This week she got an AIDS test, because she was bored. Frankly, I’m surprised that it’s being aired on Comedy Central, but I suppose it’s no more off-color than The Chappelle Show.

Thanks to Ceej for informing me about the new Nine Inch Nails songs circulating the web. In most cases, stealing music is wrong. But in this case, it is right. The songs were apparently released through a viral marketing campaign, where a usb drive was left in a concert bathroom. Two songs were on the device and are receiving a lot of attention for the hidden messages.

I use an IngenuiTEA teamug, from Adagio, when brewing most of my teas and the inside stains a light brown color. In this months teacast, they explained how to disassemble the mug for better cleaning. I was surprised by how easy it was to clean with a little bleach. Within a minute, most of the stains in the mug had disappeared, and now they’re all gone. For some reason, using bleach had never occurred to me.

I just saw that one of my favorite artists, Brant Bjork (check ‘Get Into It’ in the links), is going to release a new album next week. He really needs some better press or to update his website more often. I mean I keep close tabs on new info, and I only heard about this today because someone on ebay was taking pre-orders for the vinyl.

Oh yeah…preparations for Mustache March have begun.

Have your teacasters mentioned anything about bleach: the pros and cons? Or whether or not the scare about it is just a bunch of hullabaloo? A little red flag went off in my head when you mentioned it. The ecofriendly people don’t like it because it isn’t good for that stuff to get into the water system.

Seems like it wouldn’t be so great to ingest it either, even if only in minute amounts. I mean, yeah your tea mug looks gross but it’s just tea stain. It’s not that big of a deal. If you have to clean it, I would recommend borax instead.

Optical Brighteners

Eyes of Nye probably isn’t available on the web because they want the individual stations to pay for all the episodes.

Annnd it’s produced by Disney. You can buy the whole thirteen ep set for the bargain price of $500. Somehow I doubt the Disney cash cow is gonna let free podcasts slip out for the fun of it…

The teacast just warned that you should thoroughly clean out the bleach before you brew your next cup of tea. My mug was seriously in desperate need of a cleaning. I mean I’ve cleaned it before, but it’s difficult to scrub certain areas. The bleach just blasted it away. I didn’t research any eco-friendly alternatives. I had bleach laying around, and thought “It’s Time to ROCK!”

Yeah, putting Eyes of Nye on the web is asking too much from Disney. For the most part, you can find NOVA and some other PBS produced shows on the web.

I have tomorrow off, and I can probably squeeze out one more blog post.

Awesome! I just heard an hour or so ago that Wall St was closed and I wondered if you would get the day off as well :)

I’m not so sure I like the SSP. I’ve watched the first two episodes and found them to be mildly humerous. I DLed the third but haven’t watched it yet. Amazing Race all-stars is on. I’m all over that. Survivor is back, but so far I haven’t really got into this season. No real outstanding or outspoken individuals.

The NIN thing is kinda weird. I wonder who dropped it…if on purpose or not. Maybe it was Reznor himself. It’s also cool that Saul Williams did some vocals on this new album. I’ve really been into his music ever since I saw him at the Nails show. Saul’s stuff is fairly political….kinda along the lines of Rage, but I think the Nails stuff is headed that direction. I tried to get tickets to see Tool in March. The tickets went on sale at 10:30 am a couple Saturdays ago and by the time I got to a computer the “good” seats were gone.

BTW…QOTSA has a new albut set for April…..I think.

I didn’t know the Amazing Race was on until I checked the web today. I’ll have to watch it later. I’ve written off the Apprentice and dont watch much TV on Sundays. Survivor is “ho-hum” right now. The beginnings are always slow, because there isn’t enough time to show off individual characteristic with 18 or so people. Therefore, I’m not cheering anyone on yet.

I’m sure whoever dropped the usb drive did it on purpose. It’s too much of a coincidence that the tour gear points to a website with the “Presence.” And the “Presence” is also identifiable in the last seconds of My Violent Heart. I ran it through a spectrometer in Winamp, and it’s cool to see come up. If these two songs are representative of the rest of the album than I’m dying to hear the rest.

I havent listened to Saul’s work yet. I’ll try to give it a listen tonight. Rage Against the Machine is also getting back together for the Coachella Festival. Many artists going political these days.

The Eyes of Nye… awesome. I wish it were airing on our local public station. Bill Nye was great; I didn’t know he had made a new show.

Beakman’s World was a lot of fun too. There is a “movie” out on DVD you can find in bargain bins. Check it out.

Beakman’s World. Now, there’s a show I completely forgot about.
